Counseling that takes your faith seriously
Plenty of people in San Antonio want a counselor who shares their faith, and plenty of them have also been burned in one of two ways. Either they got spiritual advice when they needed real clinical help, or they got competent therapy from someone who treated their faith like a symptom. You should not have to pick one.
At Pursuing Joy, Christian counseling means a Licensed Professional Counselor doing licensed professional work, with prayer, Scripture, and your walk with God woven in as much or as little as you want. You set that dial, and your counselor honors it.
Life feels heavy
Worry that will not quiet down, a low season that will not lift, or stress that has you running on empty. Real tools, honest conversation, and hope you can build on.
Marriage and family
Couples work, premarital counseling for engaged couples, and the hard seasons in between. More on marriage counseling here.
Grief and loss
Losing someone reshapes everything, including how you pray. A place to grieve honestly, without pressure to be fine or to have it all make sense.
Men and leaders
Pastors, professionals, husbands, and fathers who carry a lot and tell no one. Anthony has a special heart for the man everyone else depends on.
Teens and students
Faith-aware counseling for teenagers navigating pressure, identity, and big transitions, from counselors experienced with adolescents and athletes.
Big transitions
New city, new marriage, new baby, empty nest, career change, retirement. Change is loud. Counseling helps you hear yourself think.
The counselors
Anthony G. Peay, M.A., LPC

His style is warm, practical, and straightforward.

Sugey walks with clients through loss, marriage and divorce concerns, and life's major transitions, in English or Spanish, with warmth and cultural sensitivity.

Questions people ask us
Is Christian counseling real therapy, or spiritual advice?
Real therapy. Anthony is a Licensed Professional Counselor using established clinical approaches. The difference is that your faith is welcome in the work instead of being set aside, at whatever depth you choose.
What if my spouse or teen is not a believer?
Not a problem. Counseling here meets each person where they are, and nobody gets faith imposed on them. Many families we see are in exactly that mix.
Will you pray with me or use Scripture in sessions?
If you want that, yes, thoughtfully and in service of the clinical work. If you would rather keep sessions fully clinical, that is honored completely.
How much does it cost?
With insurance, your plan's copay or coinsurance, verified before your first session. Self-pay starts at $125. You will know the number up front.
Do you counsel pastors and ministry leaders?
Yes. Anthony's background in ministry and organizational leadership makes him a natural fit for pastors, staff, and lay leaders who need a confidential place that understands the weight they carry.
Can I verify your licenses?
Please do. Every Texas counselor's license can be verified with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council at bhec.texas.gov.
